Overall

Overall with this class I am happy. The quarter is now over, and I have to admit it was a lot more than I expected; in a good way. I am not very computer savvy, I at leats did not think of myself as, but now after taking this class I have learned a lot. I did complete my goal, which was to learn a lot so that I feel more comfortable with computers both at work and with my own use. The class was very interesting and our teacher way very funny which made it even funner to learn about. I am happy that I took this class, and I will probably end up taking some other computer class in the future.
Thank you Professor Fry.

on line in 10years.

In 10 years the internet will be CRAZY!!!
In 10 years conputers will brobably do everything for us, they will be extremely fast which probably means that they will crash twice as hard. Just like how we can talk to our phones, we will be able to talk to our computers and tell it to do anything on line and/or ask it questions. People will get more and more lazy, lol jk. The compter screens will be 3D without needing the glasses, and the screen will be motion activated. Every social networking site, like Face book, with have a live web cam so you can see the person you are chatting with. This will also effect the privacy on line, it will probably continue to go down, but I do hope that in 10 years on line privacy will advance a lot, and the things we set as private will actually be private. Computers and the internet continue to advance dramatically since the first computer and the invention of the internet, so I have no problem thinking that in 10 it will be even more advanced and crazy.

Community!

There are many things that make up a community in both, the real world and the virtual world. Some of the things that make a community are people, security, relationships, location, interactions, economy, currency, reproduction, identity, rules/enforcement, and accessibility. All of thost thing I have listed, people will argue that those all can happen as a community as well as in the real world. I did not really believe that, but after hearing some of the arguments that were made in class, I understand were they are comming from and I do believe you can have a community in the virtual world. A location is the first thing you need; if you can imagine it, visualize it, remember it, or go to it physically then it is a real location. All communitys require security, every one wants to feel safe. Communitys every where, live and die and may or may not raise back up again.
So the big question, Can there be a real community on line? My answer to that after having taking this class, is yes. I have not done anything like that on line, but there are people every were that have and are a part of a community on line; just like there are people that have claimed to get married and divorced on line.

GROUP Project

Our group project was on privacy, and how it is pretty much gone when it comes to the internet and being on line. Our group consist on me, Heather, Jessica, Alfredo, Alex, and Brittany. We all picked seperate things that have something to dow with privacy, and put it all together on a powerpoint. The part that I did on privacy, was sex offenders. I got some statistics, charts, and a project on the issue. I showed how easy it is for a sex offender to get in contacy with you over the internet, and how many teens, end up meeting the stranger in person after talking to them on line. Teens can very gullable, and that is what makes this issue of sex offenders even scarier. Other things that were discussed in our presentation, were:  facebook, email, cookies, paswords, html, theft, fraud, and many more. When it comes down to it, there really is no more privacy when it comes to the internet. Many people can agrue that there is, but I believe that there is vedry little. Privacy is a big issue, and everyone wants there privacy, it is just sad how it is gone online. Be careful what you put out on the internet, because once its out there it will always be there. Be careful!

5 min presentation

My small 5 minute presentation in class was on cyber bullying. I chose cyber bullying, because it is a serious issue and many many teens are subjected to it. Cyber bullying has been a big issue for many years, but it took a teen girl to commit suicide before any laws were made against the act. Now, it is illegal to bully someone/anyone online, and if you get taken to court with it and there is evidence against you, you will be punished. You can do jail time, as well as be banned from any social networking site, for as long as the judge says. Cyber buyyling is taken as searious as any other crime, and I think that is a good thing, because yound people die from this. If you thin you are forming a relationship with a young boy or girl, and you start to have real feelings for him or her, how would you feel if it ended up being a mean person making that boy or girl up; just to make fun of you? I can not speek personally on this, because that has never happened to me, but if you just look at the statistics on how many teens hurt themselves and/or kill them selves other this. It is stagering to me, how people can do this to other people.

Getting info on line

It is very easy to get information on line. Even if you think there is nothing about you on line, there is most likely something about you that can be found. I only have a face book page, that is private, but I went on the poke you site and found other information that I never thought was available. You could not find my exact address on their, but it was scary how many peoples address you could find. To me it is very scary how much information you can find on line about people. This information makes it very easy for criminals to find you and hurt you. Not just sex offenders are people that can find you and hurt you, but there are also people that will try to, and a lot of times succeed, at stealing your identity. It also gives an easy target for cyber bullying, millions of teens are victims of cyber bullying a year, and it is sad. If your information is not available on line, that makes it a lot harder for people to steal your identity, find you, and or hurt you.
For our little assignment, I could not find that much information about myself, but I am also not that technical with computers. The only thing I believe I have on line about myself is with my face book page and my space page, and I do not put personal information about myself on there. I am cautious about on line privacy, and it worries me how it easy it it to gather information.

What to buy online vs. In stores

I do not buy many things online, but I do like to go shopping and buy many things in stores. When it comes to buying things online you have to be very careful, because it is very likely that it is a scam. I do not like buying things online, but one thing I have bought are shoes. The shoes were on an official store website, Coach. Other things I would consider buying online would probably be; clothes, and small material goods. Shopping in a store is completely different, and I would buy almost anything from clothes and shoes to a car or big appliances. When you are in a store you get to see and inspect everything you are purchasing, before purchasing it. Most people like to inspect and look at most goods before purchasing them. Another reason why purchasing things in a store is safer, is because you know were exactly your money is going. When buying items online, you do not necessarily know were your money is going. A lot of people get their credit card numbers, and or their identities stolen while thinking they are purchasing an item. Purchasing items in a store, is always safer, but there are safe websites you can purchase items on as well.

My HTML Experience...

This was my first time making a HTML pare, I do not consider myself good with computers, so this was a good experience. It was confusing to begin with, but then once I realized what I was doing it became easier. I followed the directions carefully and I think i made it harder than it really is. I have a tendency to do that sometimes. I feel a little more computer savvy now that I made this page, because it was never something I thought about doing. I worked on this with a friend, and we helped each other out. I had a little bit of problems in the end, so I still don't know if I did every thing completely right. I was cool in the end, to have actually made my own html page. I have already learned a lot in this class, and this html page was just another thing I now know how to do! I am now looking forward to what I will learn next in this class. When I first heard that we had to make our own html page, i did think that it was going to be complicated, because I have never done it; but it was not bad. Overall I would say it was a good experience!

Email vs. Postal service

E-mails and the postal service are similar in many ways, but they are also different in some ways. One way that they are the same is that they both send information from one place to a final destination, they also both follow specific routes, determining on the traffic at the time. With that last one, the postal service usually has the same rout that it takes each day, but the e-mail does it in a different way. E-mail rips the message into a bunch of different pieces, and sends them in different ways, meeting up at the end. They also both have established protocols to follow, and they both can also have junk mail. Another major difference between the two is speed. E-mail is extremely fast, when it comes to speed, much faster than the postal service. There are also many stops along the way to the final destination, for both. But thet also results to speed, because email does this extremely quick. With both email and the postal service, they can both "bounce" mail back to the sender. When it comes to email, you do not need a stamp, but you do need a stamp with the postal service. The stamps pay for the service to the postal service. With email you don't pay direct, like with stamps, but you do pay in other ways.

What I hope to learn.

I this class I hope to learn a lot of the basics when it comes to computers in general. I do not know much about the virtual world, but there are times when I really wished that I did know more. When it comes to computers, I  feel like I only know what I use, and what I need to know. I defiantly know that common basic knowledge in computers is always good to have, no matter what you decide to do with your life. I also work at Target, and a lot of the times they have me cover our electronics department for lunches or brakes, and even though it's a short time, I still get guests and questions that I do not always know. I would like to feel more comfortable with electronics in general, so I am looking forward to this class showing me what I will need to know!
